Eligibility

These are the basic Whitman study abroad eligibility requirements. Individual programs may have additional eligibility requirements for admission, such as prerequisite foreign language courses, other prerequisite coursework or a higher GPA requirement.

Passports

Get more information about passports and visas.

Passports for Study Abroad

Study abroad students must have a passport valid for at least six months beyond the end date of their program. U.S. passports issued before age 16 are only valid for five years.

Applying for a U.S. Passport

For U.S. passport applications, follow the U.S. Department of State’s instructions. Any U.S. citizen can apply for their passport at the Walla Walla County Clerk’s Office regardless of their state of residence.

Visas for Study Abroad

Depending on your citizenship and destination, you may need a visa, which grants permission to enter and study in a foreign country. While students are responsible for obtaining their visas, the Office of Global Programs provides guidance and support throughout the process.
