Fees for Study Abroad Partner Programs

Whitman Study Abroad Partner Program fees for semester study on a U.S.-based Partner Program are billed as follows.

For specific fee amounts for study abroad semester programs, see the Fees/Financial Aid tab under your study abroad program in . (Whitman reserves the right to adjust stated program fees on our website if the program provider changes their fees or if there is a change in the currency exchange rate.)

Billable OCS Expenses:

  • Whitman Tuition (same as on campus tuition fees)
  • Study Abroad Program Room Fees* (based on specific study abroad program room fees)
  • Study Abroad Program Meal Fees (if any, based on specific study abroad program meal fees)
  • Other Required Fees (such as program-billed Medical Insurance or Visa Fee)

*A few programs such as Middlebury, AIT Budapest and Budapest Semester in Mathematics do not include room costs in their billed fees.

Non-Billable (Out-of-Pocket) Expenses:

  • Estimated Meals not covered by Program Fees*
  • Estimated Roundtrip Airfare**
  • Estimated Personal Expenses*** (includes books, local transportation, etc)

*Many programs cover only a partial meal plan or no meal plan.
**Estimated airfare is based on the typical cost of a roundtrip flight from Seattle to your program’s arrival city.
***The amount needed for “Personal Expenses” will vary significantly according to a student’s spending habits.

Expenses Not Eligible for Financial Aid:

Students should be prepared to cover the following potential study abroad-related personal expenses with their own resources since these expenses are not eligible for need-based aid.

  • Passport Fees
  • Immunizations and Medical Expenses
  • Room and Meals During Breaks
  • Housing Deposit
  • Supplemental Housing Fee for Non-standard Housing
  • Gear, Equipment and/or Clothing
  • Optional Field Trips
  • Entertainment
  • Independent Travel
