Where to Start with Computer Science?
If you do not have prior experience but are interested in taking a Computer Science (CS) course at Whitman, you should enroll in .
If you have experience with programming and have completed the Advanced Placement CS A exam with a score of 4 or 5 or another course equivalent, you will automatically receive credit for CS-167 and be well prepared for 200-level courses.
Please note: You will need to wait until your prerequisite waiver is processed in the Registrar’s Office before registering for .
If you have prior experience with programming or computer science but do not expect to receive AP credit for CS-167, you should log into your Whitman account and complete the CS placement questionnaire to determine the best placement for you.
What Happens After Taking the Questionnaire?
Within a week after completing the questionnaire, a Computer Science faculty member will reach out to you to confirm your recommended course placement or schedule a deeper conversation.
Please plan to take the placement questionnaire by July 15 to avoid delays in advising and registration.
If in the first week of classes you find that a different placement would better suit you, you are welcome to change your course registration during the standard add/drop period.
