On-Campus Housing Selection for Returning Students

Students will be able to submit applications online for the on-campus housing lottery in April, with rolling applications available after that pending open space.

Residence Halls for Returning Students

All students must complete four semesters of on-campus living or be 21 years of age before they can move off campus, regardless of class status.

On-Campus Housing Applications and Lottery Process

  • All students who need on-campus housing must complete an application in the housing portal.
  • Please read the different sections below to determine what you need to complete.
  • If you have concerns about finding a roommate or questions about choosing a room, please write to us at on_campus_housing@whitman.edu or visit us in Memorial 130.

Singles and Doubles in Douglas, Stanton, and Prentiss

  1. Go to the .
  2. Select “sign in with your school account,” using your Whitman credentials to log in.
  3. Complete the entire housing application by the deadline.
  4. You will receive an email with your randomly assigned lottery timeslot. You will also be able to view your assigned time in the housing portal.
  5. Create a roommate group with another student who has completed their housing application. Decide on your roommate group ahead of time! Both roommates must complete a separate application. This step is not applicable for single rooms.
  6. Any roommate can log in at or after their assigned time (before the selection period ends) and choose a space for the entire group.

Please note: Lottery time slots will be assigned based on a combination of randomization and class status as determined by number of semesters at Whitman. However, certain spaces, including the entirety of Stanton Hall, will be reserved for sophomores since they are required to live on campus.

Housing Accommodations

Some students may be pre-placed based on a medical accommodation or other extenuating need on a case-by-case basis. Accommodations for on-campus housing must be approved by Disability Access Services (DAS) before the lottery occurs (specific deadlines vary by year). It can take several weeks to have accommodations approved, so please reach out to DAS ahead of time. Their email is das@whitman.edu.

Sorority and Fraternity Housing

Returning students who are members of a sorority or fraternity may choose to live in chapter housing. Please connect with your sorority or fraternity leadership to discuss your chapter’s housing requirements.
