Kids Climbing Club

Introducing this spring …the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Climbing Center Kids Climbing Club! The ³Ô¹ÏÍø Outdoor Program is excited to offer a new rock climbing opportunity for the children of the Walla Walla area. Beginning this Spring, the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Climbing Center will host club practices every week for children kindergarten through high school led by dedicated student climbing instructors. There will be two different sections of the club separated by climbing goals and ages:

The Rowdy Rockers Club:

Ages: The Rowdy Rockers Club is designed for children who are between ages 6 and 10 years old, but older students who would prefer a more casual climbing experience are welcome!

Goals: Club meetings will be focused on fun! The goal of the Rowdy Rockers climbing club is to introduce new climbers to the gym and prepare them with the confidence and skills necessary to pursue the sport farther into the future.

Content: There will be plenty of climbing games, free climbing time, and short instructional lessons. We will introduce climbers to basic types of equipment: climbing shoes, harnesses, belay devices, auto-belays, carabiners, etc. Additionally, we will cover such topics as basic climbing movement and technique terminologies, steps to climbing safely and effectively, top-rope climbing, and gym-climbing etiquette.

The Crag Crushers Club:

Ages: The Crag Crushers Club is ideal for children who are between ages 11 and 16 years old.

Goals: The advanced club will be focused on learning new climbing skills and techniques, as well as improving an individual's climbing confidence and abilities on the wall. No previous climbing experience is required to join the club.

Content: Club meetings will be operated similarly to other youth sport practices. Instructors will teach technical and skill content around students’ needs and desires towards becoming better climbers. Subjects may include: climbing movement skills, advanced belay techniques, free-climbing with coaching, projecting specific climbing routes, climbing training techniques, and climbing-gym etiquette.

Meeting Time: Both clubs will meet at the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Climbing Center on Fridays from 4:00pm-5:30pm, excluding days that coincide with academic breaks.

Club Costs:
The cost of joining either section of the Kids Climbing Club will be the purchase of a youth gym membership, or $100 per month. With the purchase of this type of membership, climbers are given the privilege of unlimited climbing at the gym for the month, as well as their registration for the Kids Climbing Club for that month.
