Seattle is such a strong city for biology and biomedicine research, with places like Fred Hutch, Seattle Children’s and the Institute for Systems Biology, which are places I aspire to work someday.

Summer in Seattle FAQs
For this initial cohort, that’s best—students who have already secured an internship or research position in the Seattle area are ready to apply today. But if you're still searching, schedule an appointment with a Career Coach to discuss your options.
And here's some good news: if your internship is unpaid, you can apply for an Whitman Internship Grant (WIG) to provide up to $4,000 to support you over the summer.
Housing will be available for all students accepted into the Summer in Seattle program. This year's cohort will have a two-stage housing option with students staying in short-term rentals near the Seattle University campus from Sunday, May 31, to Saturday, June 20. On June 20, students will move into group apartments at Seattle University. ³Ô¹ÏÍø will have a professional Residence Life staff member available to students to answer questions and offer support during the entirety of their stay in Seattle.
While the professional development program is covered by Whitman, the housing and food costs are $1,700, which includes $1,200 for housing and a $500 partial meal plan.
During the first three weeks of the program, students will have full kitchens in their rentals. Once students move into the apartment-style living at Seattle University, they will have in-apartment kitchens and flex dollars for meals in the Seattle University dining options, if preferred. Students will have a minimum of $500 flex dollars during their time on the Seattle University campus, with options to extend that total.
Absolutely—Seattle locals are welcome to participate in Summer in Seattle. If you’d prefer to live at home, the program fee can be adjusted accordingly. You’ll still have full access to all programming, employer events and the cohort experiences.
Once the final cohort is identified, students will have the option to indicate preferred roommates and share housing needs. We will attempt to honor those requests.
