Research Lab Highlights
Joining a Research Lab
Joining a research lab and participating in undergraduate research can be one of the highlights of students’ time at Whitman. The chemistry department takes pride in the diverse and successful research labs within our program (described above). While not required, joining a research lab at Whitman is one way for chemistry and BBMB majors to work towards their senior thesis requirements. Chemistry majors may also fulfill this requirement by writing a thesis based on off-campus research or an area of the chemistry literature.
Every fall, the department conducts a formal recruiting process for students interested in joining Whitman chemistry research labs (see different areas represented above). This process ensures transparency and inclusiveness, giving all students a fair chance to participate in chemistry research.
