Katie Jose ™23: Merging Tradition With Modern Medicine

Katie Jose ’23 came to ³Ô¹ÏÍø with a dream—to study medicine and one day become a pediatric physician. Along the way, she created her own major, Global Health, merging the humanities and science. She found inspiration and community in several of Whitman’s health-related student clubs. And with the help of Whitman Internship Grants, she secured hands-on experience in the medical field

After graduating, she went on to a prestigious , which enabled her to travel the world learning about traditional and Indigenous medicine. Now, as she prepares to take the next steps in her education, she’s grateful for the support she found at Whitman—and the chance to follow her dreams.

Whitman was the place for me to step out of my comfort zone and achieve what I initially believed was impossible. I was surrounded by people who saw the best in me and pushed me to succeed to become the person I am now.
