Why you chose Whitman

In my college search, I was searching for a school that combined rigorous academics with a supportive community. I wanted a place where students pushed themselves without competing against one another - an environment where learning was collaborative rather than cutthroat.  When I visited Whitman, I found that there was an openness and warmth to the campus culture that immediately stood apart from my other college  visits.  Since then, I feel like Whitman has been exactly what I was looking for; a place where intellectual curiosity is fostered in a genuinely supportive environment.

Favorite things to do in Walla Walla

Just outside of town, there is a classic drive in movie theater.  I love piling as many people as we can fit in the car and packing lots of snacks and watching movies there, especially when they play oldies.Favorite spot on campus During exam season, I am almost always found on the second floor of the science building, right by the big windows and potted plants.  It’s the best study spot on campus!

What advice you’d give yourself when you were going through the college process

Use professors’ office hours!!  It took me a semester or two to figure out how truly valuable they are.  It can help so much if you are feeling stuck, and it really lets you build close relationships with your professors that last for years.

Best class you’ve taken on campus

I feel like there are so many options for this question!  I especially loved Educational Psychology, not only because it was so interesting and meshed really well with my career interests, but also because we got to train our lab rats to play basketball, and the final was a rat march madness tournament!

Favorite campus traditions

It’s a classic, but I love burritos in the wheatfields.  There’s big debate on which of the taquerias in town is better (I’m a Taqueria Yungapeti girl all the way).
